Who We Are

The PA Research Foundation was established in 1984 to raise funds for world class health and medical research at the Princess Alexandra Hospital - Queensland's leading research hospital and our largest clinical trials centre. "Gardisil" the first ever vaccine for cervical cancer and the "Brisbane Technique" the first ever split liver transplant from a live donor, are just two familiar entries in a long list of significant achievements.

The PA Research Foundation funds groundbreaking, lifesaving research - to develop better diagnoses, treatments and preventions for some of Australia's biggest health challenges. This research reduces human suffering and enhances quality of life; it reduces the burden on already stretched health care budgets, and fosters Australian ingenuity and industry.

There are over 600 people that make up the research staff that the Foundation raises funds for including affiliated universities - The University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology and Griffith University all of whom share a common purpose - to find cures, treatments and preventions to tackle some of the most challenging health problems facing us as a nation...

Cancer Immunology Transplantation
Diabetes Heart Disease Kidney & Renal disease
Liver disease Arthritis Therapeutics Research

All research funded by the PA Research Foundation goes through a rigorous selection process - to ensure it is of genuine scientific merit, and does not replicate any other research anywhere in the world.  All funds therefore contribute to the highest calibre research.

Supporting health and medical research is an ongoing process and a costly undertaking.  The PA Research Foundation is fortunate to receive donations from the general public, the business community, bequests and the thousands of patients and their families who have benefited from the medical treatment provided by the PA Hospital.  There are also many hospital staff who donate a percentage of their salary through the foundation's Workplace Giving Program.
