The Great Brisbane Duck Race...

Congratulations to the Lucky Duck winner duck number 8179 - Louise from Wynnum is winner of this year's Great Brisbane Duck Race taking home the prize vehicle - a Sci-Fleet Toyota Yaris!

Over 17,000 rubber ducks flocked to the Brisbane River last Saturday 26 September and thousands of specatators lined the shores of South Bank Parklands to cheer their ducks along and have a quacking good time.

It was a competitve race from start to finish as the ducks not only battled each other but also mother nature with windy conditions and downward tides to contend with.  But the 100 metre upstream course was no match for the winning duck who broke away from the pack early and managed to hold the lead through to the finish line.

The lucky duck to win the first prize, a Toyota Yaris, donated by Sci- Fleet Toyota located at Taringa, Albion, and Kedron, was Louise Edgley from Wynnum who went in the charity race with the team from Unidel Group. Unidel GIS Co-ordinator Gary Hutton bought the ducks online for his team with Louise being the lucky recipient of the winning duck.

“I couldn’t believe it when I got the call that I had won the car. Unidel like to get behind community fund-raisers and we thought the Great Brisbane Duck Race fitted perfectly with our philosophies. This is such a wonderful cause and to know we are contributing to cancer research makes it that much more special.”

It was a fantastic family day as locals and tourists lined up to have their photos taken with the duck mascot who was a great hit on the day. Our face painter was also kept busy with lots of pirates and princess faces to be painted before the race. A number of families packed picnic lunches and made a day of it on the banks of the Brisbane River to be part of the 3rd annual Great Brisbane Duck Race.

The success of this year’s Great Brisbane Duck Race could not have been achieved without the PA Foundation’s loyal supporters, the generosity of the Brisbane community and the wonderful sponsors.

Because of all the support, the PA Foundation rose over $55,000 from the duck race with all proceeds going towards cancer research on the PA Hospital Campus.

The PA Foundation’s Great Brisbane Duck Race will be back next year with thousands of ducks waiting to be adopted in the race towards finding a cure for cancer.

Thank you to everyone who adopted a duck!
