Aims
The study was undertaken as part of part-time studies supported by the hospital. Support is sought for the completion of write-up of this work for publication. The study aim (which has been completed) was:
- To develop a clinically practical, sensitive and specific dehydration screening process for use with older people admitted to hospital.
- To ascertain if certain factors including nutritional, social, demographical, environmental, visual, functional, cognitive, depressive, mobility, continence, fluid intake or thirst, either individually or in combination, can be used to predict dehydration status (measured by tritium dilution) with adequate sensitivity and specificity (over 60%)
