Fitness trainer Kraine Briggs is offering people a chance to get a great workout and help improve the health outcomes of people who are recovering from a brain injury.
Inspired by the courage and strength of Sunshine Coast tri-athlete Alexa Leary, who is currently recuperating in a Brisbane hospital, after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a cycling accident, Kraine is hosting a boot camp which will raise funds for patients of the PA Hospital’s Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit.

Based at Good Life Springwood, the fitness trainer will hold a special Halloween themed boot camp at 7am on 30 October, with those keen to work up a good sweat only charged $5, with funds going to help the patients of BIRU through the PA Research Foundation, with special prizes available for participants.
Kraine who was a patient in PA’s BIRU unit himself after being struck by a car that ran a red light in 2002 while riding his motorbike, said he wanted to give back through what he does best, personal training to help others.
“I run boot camps for charity, I’ve already done two for St Vincent de Paul’s homelessness services and I was able to raise $1500 from some generous sponsors which was great,” he said.
“Recently I was inspired by the story of Alexa Leary because I used to be a patient in BIRU years ago and I was in a real state, and they helped me recover. I was in an induced into a coma for 14 weeks then I spent a couple of months recovering in BIRU.
“Now I do personal training at Good Life, and I’m using Alexa’s story as motivation to run this boot camp and give back to BIRU and its patients.”
Kraine is not the only regular of his gym who was helped in recovery by the staff of the PA and BIRU.
“There’s a couple clients that I know of and one that I train that have had recent brain injuries and they were treated at BIRU. I’ve been speaking to them when they come in for training and they’ve also been uplifted and inspired by Alexa’s story.”
Kraine’s Halloween Bootcamp for BIRU starts at 7am on Saturday October 30 and anyone keen to take part and help raise funds for a good cause can book in by calling Kraine on 0434 582 921 or emailing Kraine via email@example.com
