What is King's in Pink?

Join us in the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Each October, members of the King’s College community lace up their running shoes and take to the riverside for a cause that hits close to home - raising vital funds for breast cancer research.

King’s in Pink began as an initiative of Thérèse Eddy, who sought to open the doors of the College to women - mothers of Kingsmen and supporters - by hosting a cocktail lunch. Her goal was twofold: to encourage the presence of women in the men's only College and to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Little did she know that many year on, Thérèse would be undergoing treatment for breast cancer herself this year.

Since that time, King’s in Pink has evolved into the event that is today: a 5km or 10km fun run or walk along the Brisbane River, with all proceeds going to Project Pink breast cancer researchers at the PA Hospital campus for their research on finding a cure for breast cancer.

This cause is deeply personal to the College community, with many mothers, aunts, sisters or friends facing this disease. This is why we are committed to making a difference for those 57 Australians that are diagnosed with breast cancer every day.

All proceeds go directly to Project Pink at the PA Hospital Campus, supporting world-class research aimed at curing breast cancer. While breakthroughs have been made in treating some types of breast cancer, many forms remain resistant and incurable. This year, we’ve set an ambitious goal: to raise $26,000 for Project Pink to support their research into combination therapies for more effective treatment.
