The annual Smiddy Fun Run is an event dedicated to raising vital funds and awareness for melanoma and skin cancer research. This fitness event which this year takes place on 20 November, tributes a young physiotherapist Adam Smiddy who was diagnosed with melanoma and passed away in 2006 at just 26 years old.
As Australians, we are acutely aware of the impact sun exposure has on our families and communities, and this annual fun run directly contributes to advancing prevention, treatment and care.
Proceeds from the Smiddy Fun Run go towards PA Hospital based skin cancer and melanoma researchers and clinicians and The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute’s Dermatology Research Group, whose groundbreaking work continues to improve outcomes for individuals affected by melanoma and skin cancer and whose motto is ‘a work without melanoma’. Their research not only advances clinical knowledge but also ensure that discoveries translate into tangible benefits for patients and families.
By participating in, or supporting the the Smiddy Fun Run on the PA Hospital campus the Foundation is able to keep investing in a healthier future, one where innovation and research paves the way for earlier detection, improve treatments, and ultimately, lives saved.
“We are are proud to stand behind this cause each year alongside our valued corporate partner Port of Brisbane and I encourage you to register to run or walk the Smiddy Fun Run course this year.
