Jarrod was just 33 when he was diagnosed with a rare, aggressive and advanced cancer.

 “He knew it was bad,” remembers Claire. “He desperately wanted to be there for Jack, who was just three years old at the time.”

 At first, Jarrod’s treatment was successful, but then the cancer returned. Before operating, Dr Sanjeev Naidu at the PA Hospital asked Jarrod was he was hoping for.

 He wanted to be there for Jack’s first day at school.

 Dr Sanjeev almost had to abandon the operation. But a new surgical tool on loan at the hospital – the ‘PlasmaJet’ – enabled him to complete it.

 Dr Sanjeev describes it as ‘a good tool to have in your pocket’. But the reality is, he didn’t have it in his pocket. It was on loan to the hospital.

 It just shows how important it is we have life-saving equipment on hand, ready to use.

 The PlasmaJet gave Jarrod 17 precious more months of life, and Jack will always remember Daddy taking him to school for his first day. He’ll remember the quiet moments playing Lego and kicking a ball around the yard. But most importantly, he’ll remember just how much he was loved.
