Thanks to a group of generous matching donors, every gift made to the PA Research Foundation on Thursday 3 September will be doubled for 24 hours only.
Give Big for the PA has been running on the PA Hospital campus since 2019 and in that time has raised more than vital funds for medical research, equipment, patient care programs and staff education. This year the Foundation aims to raise $150,000 in a single day, and with matching funds in place, a $25 gift becomes $50, $50 becomes $100 and $100 becomes $200, doubling the impact of every dollar donated while matching funds last.
It is one of five Give Big events running across the Metro South Health region on the day, alongside campaigns for the QEII Jubilee, Beaudesert, Logan and Redland hospitals.
PA Research Foundation Community Partnerships Manager Ellen Dann said the annual event was a chance for the community to come together and show its support for their local hospital and the healthcare professionals and researchers working every day to save and improve lives.
“With every gift doubled, it’s the perfect time to give and say thank you for your care or that of a loved one, or play your part in advancing vital medical research into cancer and other serious diseases,” she said.
“Every dollar raised on the day goes towards advancing research, funding patient care projects, purchasing state of the art equipment and driving staff education initiatives.”
“It all adds up to better outcomes for patients, and gives our clinicians, nurses, allied health teams and medical researchers greater support to keep providing world class healthcare.”
Last year more than 40 PA Hospital departments and research groups took part in Give Big for the PA, and the campus will again be at the centre of the day, with Brisbane radio station 4BC broadcasting live from the main foyer from 9am to midday, a paper crane exhibit on display and busking by the PA Hospital Volunteers. The Palliative Care and Physiotherapy departments will be running a donut and food stall, and the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre Queensland will be holding a bake sale.
Ms Dann said the Foundation was encouraging past patients and their families, donors and supporters, and the broader community to dig deep and give big.
