Give Big for the PA raises more than $308,000 for PA Hospital

Thanks to hundreds of generous supporters across Queensland, Give Big for the PA has closed on a grand total of $308,745.45, more than double the campaign's original $150,000 target.

The 24-hour appeal, run in support of PA Hospital, blew past its goal by lunchtime on September 3. Buoyed by a group of matching givers who empowered the PA Research Foundation to set an initial bonus goal of $230,000, donors kept giving through the afternoon and evening, and that target fell too.

Community Partnerships Manager Ellen Dann said the result reflected just how deeply people care about the hospital, and how much hospital staff and researchers care about raising funds to help their teams and departments provide the very best care for patients and their families.

"Thanks to our amazing matching givers we set out with a target we thought was ambitious, and by the time the sun had barely reached midday, our community had already smashed it. To then watch everyone rally again around the matched giving goal and blow past that as well was something else entirely. It tells you everything about the generosity that exists in this community when people understand exactly who their donations will support."

The funds raised, more than $300,000 in total, will go toward research, patient support projects, cutting edge equipment and staff education at PA Hospital. For the people who walk through the hospital's doors, that means real and lasting change.

"Every dollar raised will help improve outcomes for hospital patients for years to come," Ellen said.
"This result will mean a researcher gets one step closer to an answer, a patient support program is funded that eases someone's worst week in hospital, or a piece of equipment is acquired that makes a real difference to getting a patient home sooner."

The Foundation extended its thanks to every single person who gave, whether it was five dollars or five thousand, and to the matching givers whose generosity doubled the impact of the day.
