Gemma was just 27 years old when she was diagnosed with HER-2 positive, an extremely aggressive form of breast cancer. It was an enormous shock, but for women like Gemma there’s an even greater shock to come.
Despite all the progress that’s been made in breast cancer treatment, some forms of breast cancer, including HER-2 positive, are extremely aggressive. Even after successful treatment, they can come back— and there’s no cure.
Gemma can’t plan for the future the way so many of us do. She tries to live in the moment and treasure every day with her family.
“I’ve never been able to celebrate my treatment ending because I’m still living with this. My cancer could come back any time. I just hope researchers have found an effective treatment by then.”
